Practical guide

PDF or JPG: which format should you use for documents?

Choose the format according to the recipient’s requirements. Converting to an image can simplify some tasks while removing document features.

When to keep PDF

Keep PDF when multiple pages, selectable text, forms or verifiable digital signatures are needed. An image showing a signature is not equivalent to the signed original. Preserve the original for validation.

When JPG is useful

JPG can be inserted into slides or apps that do not display PDF pages. Each page becomes a raster image, losing selectable text and links. Small letters can show compression artifacts, so inspect the exported pictures.

Review the output and privacy

The tool bundles numbered JPGs in a ZIP. Extract it to open the images; split out a page first if you only need part of the document. Changing formats does not anonymize personal information. Converting a JPG back to PDF does not restore the original text layer, interactive features or signature.
